The Berlin Wall Falls - A Country is Reunified
In this image, men and women form East and West Germany are
crossing over the Berlin Wall that separated their lands and their people for so
long. The problem or issue that is being overcome here is the separation of
Germany caused by political tension. The unification of two lands once separated
is being depicted in this picture, and the solution is a federal and national
intervention to finally end the long separation.

Launch of a New Future - Sputnik Rises Above the Limit
In this image, the world’s first satellite, Sputnik, is being
launched into orbit by its 4-ton rocket booster that plunged Sputnik into orbit
at 18,000 miles per hour. There is no real problem being showed here, in fact,
the prosper and advancement in the scientific field in being displayed here.
However, one major issue is represented by this photo – the growing tensions in
the ‘space race’ between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. The main important matter,
however, is the significance that such scientific developments can still be made
despite so much competition between two nations. This ‘war’ might not include
violence, but the solution to this problem is not an easy one. It lies in the
roots of the conflict – something only a major organization like the United
Nations or a bold move by a diplomat can solve. Despite this, the real thing we
must keep watch of is how this race escalates and what new developments will
branch out of it.

Pulitzer Prize Winning Photograph - The Horrors of Tet
In this image, a man is being executed on the streets of Saigon,
South Vietnam during the Tet Offensive after already being injured in previous
attacks. The problem here is one very deep-rooted and very complicated, but the
main issues are the violence involved in the Tet Offensive, the some 40,000
lives lost, and of course – how different ideals and forced hatred can lead a
man to point a gun to the head of his fellow countryman with no regret.
Solutions to this problem have been tried previously with intervention from
worldwide organizations like the United Nations. However, the main solution is
appropriate negotiation and diplomacy form both sides to stop the violence, end
the loss of life and agree on a common good that is agreeable by both sides.
This is easier said than done, but how can one know if they do not try?
